The Figment Interactive Art Festival, held at Governors Island in New York, gathers unique and talented artists with a community interested in engaging and being surprised by their environment. As Joel Fitzpatrick Design we had the chance to enter an interactive light installation in June 8-9 2013, under the name of Psychic Blur. My responsibilities included creating an installation from Joel Fitzpatrick’s creative vision and manage the project. This was the first realization of the art installation Psychic Blur.
The installation created an immersive experience by blurring the lines of art and technology. Being in a small room the effect of the LED wall and projection was felt more profound. The interactive component in this installation works in this manner: a video camera films the LED wall and sends the live video stream to a laptop. A Kinect depth sensor sends depth information of people moving within the installation. A computer with projection mapping software mixes the live video stream and the depth information and creates different visual effects.
