The hand building technique used in this work was learned and practiced during a workshop led by renowned Korean artist and ceramicist Yoonjee Kwak at Gasworks Studio in Brooklyn.
The piece with openings is crafted from white porcelain and features a double application of celadon glaze, and one application of green translucent glaze to the top accented by a rutile wash along the rim. The other larger piece is made from white stoneware with a double application of celadon glaze. Both pieces were fired in a gas kiln at Gasworks Studio in Brooklyn, ensuring a rich depth of color and texture and an atmospheric effect on the glaze through out the body.
The glaze colors, transitions and effects usedĀ mimic the subtle colors of the landscape it's placed in. I strive to capture the quiet moments of transformation found in nature—moments of erosion, growth, and decay that speak to the transient beauty of the world around us.
