The Dichroic Diamond is a light art piece that came together from a material research class. Dichroic film or filters are very popular in architectural and theatrical applications because they filter out or produce highly saturated colored light. It has properties that separate and reflect different colored light in different directions. To highlight this special quality of dichroic film I made different shapes from it, flooding them with light from different angles. The most interesting result as seen above was from a diamond shape. When the LED light is placed in the center, the light is separated into two different colors. One along the corners and one filling the facades. When the shape or the viewer moves, the color switches.
